Precautions for laser plastic surgery and beauty treatment

(1) Cooling and local compression are crucial in laser treatment of cutaneous vascular diseases

The Importance of Cooling and Compression

Cooling can reduce laser damage to normal tissue cells, thereby reducing complications; compression can remove excess blood from the hemangioma body, reduce the number of blood cell coagulation, and at the same time make the tissue layer shallower, which is beneficial to the treatment of deep-seated lesions.
Proper use of cooling can not only reduce melanin's absorption of heat energy and avoid epidermal damage and scabs, but also make the skin less sensitive to pain after cooling and have an auxiliary anesthetic effect. More importantly, cooling can significantly reduce postoperative skin pigmentation and achieve better results.

Laser treatment of skin pigment diseases

Pigmented nevus is very common in clinical practice, but its laser treatment is actually very difficult, and sometimes it cannot be eradicated after repeated treatments.
Special attention should be paid to the fact that malignant transformation of pigmented nevus does occur after laser treatment. Do not take it lightly. Therefore, pay attention to the differential diagnosis of pigmented nevus.

Discoloration during laser eyebrow cleaning

Discoloration of eyebrows often occurs during eyebrow washing. For example, black eyebrow tattoos can turn yellow or brownish-red when washed.
This is because some decorative liquids are impure or are self-produced and untested brands. They contain iron, chromium, mercury ions and other ingredients, which can cause chemical reactions and discoloration during laser treatment.
The newly generated color can be removed with the corresponding laser, but there are a considerable number of cases that cannot be completely removed.
Complications of laser hair removal

Common complications of laser hair removal are pigmentation and loss of pigmentation.

Local cooling and compression are also very important during treatment. Cooling can reduce the degree of damage to skin pigment cells and reduce the possibility of pigmentation or loss. The absorption of light by epidermal melanin will also affect the light flux reaching the hair follicles, reducing the effect of laser on hair follicles. ; Local skin cooling can reduce the thermal damage of the laser and also has the effect of assisting anesthesia.

(2) Related treatment principles and precautions after laser plastic surgery

Within 4 hours after treatment

Treatment should focus on “active anti-inflammation, prevention of infection, and promotion of repair.”
Postoperative inflammation mainly manifests as redness, swelling, heat, and pain in the surgical area, which generally disappears within 24 hours after surgery.
In order to reduce the discomfort caused by the inflammatory reaction, a cold compress mask or ice pack is generally used immediately after surgery for about 30 minutes to reduce inflammation. If the inflammatory reaction is severe, topical weak hormone ointments, oral glucocorticoids or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs can be used under the guidance of a doctor.
Reducing the early postoperative inflammatory response can not only reduce postoperative discomfort, but also has the potential to reduce post-inflammatory pigmentation. Therefore, the inflammatory response should be actively reduced in the immediate postoperative period.
Under normal circumstances, the sebum film of the skin has a strong defensive function, but within 4 hours after laser cosmetic surgery, the self-defense mechanism of the operated skin has not yet been re-formed. Therefore, these 4 hours are a dangerous period, and infection can easily occur. You must avoid entering environments that may cause contamination.
In addition, topical antibiotic ointment (such as gold or erythromycin eye ointment, etc.) needs to be applied to the wound, which can effectively prevent the occurrence of infection. Topical antibiotics can be used continuously for 3 days after surgery.
Skin metabolism will accelerate after laser cosmetic surgery and requires more water, so you should drink more water to maintain humidity. At the same time, due to the destruction of the normal sebum membrane structure of the skin, the transepidermal water loss of the skin increases. In order to help the skin restore its normal structure and function as soon as possible, it is very necessary to use medical-grade sterile facial masks containing growth factors (such as epidermal growth factor, fibroblast growth factor, etc.), collagen and other ingredients.
This type of mask has a moisturizing function and can promote wound healing. However, it needs to be reminded that the skin care mask used after surgery must be a medical grade skin care mask. This type of skin care mask is generally produced in accordance with the drug production safety level and has undergone strict bacterial testing, irritation testing and other relevant clinical trials. Those skin care masks on the market that have not undergone strict testing and are used for daily care must not be used indiscriminately to prevent the occurrence of infection and contact dermatitis.
We once received a case of this kind. After fractional laser surgery, the patient used a daily skin care mask purchased in the supermarket for laser postoperative repair, resulting in severe contact dermatitis and infection.

4 to 72 hours after treatment

The treatment focuses on "cleansing, moisturizing, preventing infection, and promoting repair."
The skin cannot be cleaned as usual after laser beauty. Generally speaking, skin cleaning cannot be performed within 4 hours after surgery. It takes 4 hours for the skin to re-form its own protective mechanism after surgery.
This protective film is formed under stress and can only provide the most basic protection. Therefore, general cleaning cannot be performed within 72 hours. If you need to clean your skin, you can use a cleansing film to stick to your skin to absorb dirt.
Cleansing can only be carried out 72 hours after the operation. However, when it comes to the choice of skin cleansing products, it is recommended not to use conventional skin cleansing products. It is best to choose medical skin care products that do not contain additives and other possible irritations under the advice of a doctor. .
It is strictly prohibited to use facial cleansers with functions such as oil removal, sand removal, fruit acid removal, and deep purification. At this time, the skin barrier function has still not been restored, and topical antibiotics, growth factors, and moisturizing films need to be used every day.

Days 3 to 6 after treatment

The treatment focuses on "basic skin care to avoid irritation".
You can use some moisturizing products appropriately during this time. If you want to avoid excessive external stimulation during the skin recovery process after laser surgery, it is best to only use restorative and therapeutic skin care products and creams.
Skin care products with certain efficacies such as whitening and antioxidants may contain pharmacological ingredients that can easily irritate the delicate skin that has just grown back. These irritations are likely to cause allergic reactions in the skin. In addition to turning the skin red, if it causes inflammation, it may also cause pigmentation, darken the skin or re-form spots, which is not worth the gain.
Although collagen can help restore skin elasticity and regain its radiance, it does not mean that using it after laser surgery is necessarily beneficial. A small number of people have allergic reactions to collagen and should be used with caution.

6 days after treatment ends

The skin barrier function gradually returns to normal, and daily cleansing and moisturizing can gradually return to normal. For daily skin care, it is best to use daily care products recommended by doctors after laser surgery. These products are less irritating and can better avoid skin sensitivity after laser surgery.
In order to avoid the occurrence of postoperative pigmentation, you must do a good job in sun protection after surgery, such as wearing a sun hat and an umbrella with UV protection when going out; choose sunscreen with an appropriate sun protection factor, UVB sun protection index (SPF) >20, UVA protection factor (PA)>++, should be reapplied every 2 to 3 hours.
Even if you stay indoors all day, you still need to apply sunscreen. Because indoor fluorescent tubes also emit ultraviolet rays, the intensity of ultraviolet rays received after staying indoors for 10 hours is equivalent to 1 hour outdoors.
The correct way to apply sunscreen is to place a pea or peanut-sized amount of sunscreen in the palm of your hand, apply it evenly in circles in your palm, and then pat it gently on your face. This can prevent sunscreen from clogging pores.
